By the fading light of a Summer's day, we packed our things away
Nobody saw the hopeless love burning on our faces
Too many memories, my memories crush me like cars
Too many memories, the Summer reminds me too much of the things I have lost
I couldn't sleep on my own that night, crying in the dark
Never told a soul at school about my broken heart
Too many memories, my memories crush me like cars
Too many memories, the Summer reminds me too much of the things I have lost
We're all in the same boat and we'll grow old together

Dan: The Things I Have Lost is something I wrote in summer 98 while looking sadly out of the window and reflected on all the beautiful summer days I've had and how I've lost forever my innocence towards love. I wrote the song particularly about the time I fell in love with someone while staying with my Uncle. I was thirteen, and we spent the whole time pretending we weren't up to anything. I was incredibly happy, but devestated beyond my understanding when I got home and realised that I couln't be with her any more. I cried myself to sleep for weeks, watching the orange cast of the streetlights on my bedroom wall, imagining her sleeping in far off Essex. Fave line: 'My memories crush me like cars...' - I really felt like a fleet of cars had crashed on my chest.
